A new research project at the University of Hamburg, funded with approximately €53,000 by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, aims to promote social innovations such as intergenerational houses and crowdfunding at the university.
Social innovations address diverse societal challenges and seek sustainable solutions, like car-sharing, Wikipedia, and intergenerational houses. The project, called "Initializing Sustainable Social Innovations and Entrepreneurship," focuses on strengthening the development of social innovations within the university, with an emphasis on integrating them into education and inspiring interest among students and staff. Project leader Prof. Dr. Jana-Michaela Timm explains this as follows: "Teachers and startup advisors are important influencers at universities who can inspire and advise students in various contexts on social entrepreneurship opportunities. Therefore, we are specifically focusing on them in the first step."
The project also explores the potential of virtual reality in social entrepreneurship and collaborates with Hamburg's innovation ecosystem (Transferagentur of the University of Hamburg, Hamburg Alliance for Social Entrepreneurship, the private company Spice VR und Hamburger Stiftungen) to contribute to regional development through social entrepreneurship education. The University of Hamburg, as a founding member of the Hamburg Alliance for Social Entrepreneurship, is committed to fostering social and sustainable enterprises in the metropolitan region, benefiting both the university and the broader society.
