On August 1st, Dr. Matthew Johnson and Brigitte Frank from the Chair of Prof Dr. Timo Busch began their work in the interdisciplinary project, D°GREES. It is a joint research project from the Chairs of Prof. Busch, Prof. Anita Engels, and Prof. Marian Paschke.
D°GREES stands for “Decarbonization: Global Research on Effects in Enterprises and Societies”. Itis a longitudinal study over the next seven years, involving multiple enterprises and academic institutions. The common goal is the interdisciplinary study on the alignment between enterprises and societies towards deep decarbonization from business, economic, sociological, and legal perspectives.
Within the project, an international firm panel will be established, consisting of 20 enterprises in multiple countries and industries. For those firms, company-specific targets will be set and compared to sectoral and nationally determined carbon goals. Other research objectives include analyses of low-emission strategies and implementation pathways to a well-below 2°C future, cost analyses of policy mechanisms, and analyses of investor and stakeholder expectations.
D°GREES is part of the Cluster of Excellence Climate, Climatic Change, and Society (CliCCS) of the University of Hamburg. The collaboration between the different cluster projects is an integral part. Therefore, on the 1st and 2nd of October, a retreat for all participating researchers will take place.
