Short bio
Malik Tirmizi is a doctoral researcher at the University of Hamburg, where he joined the Chair of Sustainable Finance in 2024. His research lies at the intersection of sustainable finance, impact investing, and financial performance, with a focus on understanding how sustainable business practices and investments can generate competitive financial returns.
He holds a Diplom-Kaufmann degree in Business Administration from Freie Universität Berlin and a Master of Science in International Business from HEC Paris. His master’s thesis, The Business Case for Corporate Social Responsibility – Evaluating New Empirical Evidence in Light of the Financial Crisis 2008–2009 with Special Reference to Industry and Country Contingencies, reflects his longstanding interest in the financial relevance of corporate responsibility.
Before entering academia, Malik gained extensive experience in strategy consulting, corporate finance, and international business development through roles at AlixPartners, Roland Berger, PwC, and Ottobock. His professional background includes work in turnaround management, financial planning, M&A integration, and performance optimization, with a strong emphasis on strategic transformation in both private equity and corporate settings.
His current research aims to bridge theory and practice by investigating the mechanisms through which impact investing and sustainability-oriented strategies can drive superior financial performance—and under what conditions such outcomes are most likely to occur.
