The research activities within the Department of Economics are extremely diverse in terms of their content and methods, and the departmentʼs members actively conduct research in a variety of highly topical fields, such as the environment, labor, health, growth, education, institutions and law, competition, international trade, economic history, media, and economic policy.
With its research activities, the department is closely affiliated with the key research areas and centers of Universität Hamburg and the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences—through its involvement in the Climate, Climate Change and Society (CLICCS) cluster of excellence, the Center for Sustainable Society Research (CSS), and the Hamburg Center for Health Economics (HCHE) and the DFG graduate program “Collective Decision-Making”.
The department also maintains close interdisciplinary research collaborations with other disciplines such as philosophy, politics, and law.
