We are proud to announce the successful disputation of our associated group member Irene Broer.
Her dissertation “Science Communication in Flux: New Conceptions, Actors and Communicative Practices in the Construction, Negotiation and Mediation of Scientific Knowledge” was supervised by Prof. Dr. Uwe Hasebrink (Leibniz-Institut für Medienforschung Hans-Bredow-Institut) and Prof. Dr. Simone Rödder. The disputation was chaired by Prof. Dr. Judith Möller.
Irene studied a newly established organisation at the science-media interface that situates itself as a “meta-newsroom” to inform public and policy debates with scientific expertise. Her five published research papers and cumulative framework focused conceptually on communicative figurations and ethnography as methodology. She finds that the new organisation takes on various roles in brokering knowledge, trust, and values between science and the media, and interprets this as an attempt to (re)strengthen the epistemic authority of both science and journalism.
Congratulations, Irene, very well done!
