Majbrit Hüttenhein is a research associate and doctoral candidate at the Mercator Endowed Chair of Sociology, especially social dynamics of ecological transformation, at the University of Hamburg. Her work primarily focuses on transformation processes toward climate neutrality at higher education institutions. Her qualitative research takes an ethnographic approach and seeks to gain a deep understanding of sustainability-oriented transformation processes and dynamics.

As part of the Decarbonization Strategy Lab, Majbrit supports the University of Hamburg’s decarbonization process both in a practical way and through research. To this end, she collaborates with the Sustainability Office, decision-makers from relevant specialist departments, interested members of the academic community, as well as students and external contributors, with the goal of bringing together the various measures and activities aimed at achieving the UHH’s climate neutrality goals.

Majbrit is a co-author of the Climate Transformation Outlook, where she focuses primarily on the driver “changes in consumption patterns.” She is a member of the Earth and Society Research Hub (ESRAH), the German Sociological Association (DGS), and the German Association for Peace and Conflict Research (AFK). She is also an Associate Fellow at the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate.
