Economics of Digitalization – Bachelor Course in Summer Term 2025
The Professorship for Digital Economics at the University of Hamburg is pleased to offer the new Economics of Digitalization course in the Bachelor of Social Economics program in the Summer Term 2025. This course will be conducted in English and focuses on the economic effects of digital transformation.
Course Content
The course explores key economic questions related to digital technologies:
- Do robots increase unemployment?
- Does artificial intelligence enhance productivity and living standards?
- What are the economic models behind digital platforms and free apps?
It introduces students to theoretical and empirical approaches used in the economics of digitalization, including economic research on innovation, labor markets, and competition policy. The course is structured as a lecture and a tutorial, with the lecture providing theoretical foundations and the tutorial offering guidance on independent academic research.
