Our research deals with important questions in the context of sustainable finance and climate stewardship. Our research draws on organizational theories such as the resource based view, stakeholder theory, and industrial ecology. We strive to find comprehensible frameworks, innovative practices, and managerial solutions for complex global sustainability challenges. 

We investigate conditions, motivations, capabilities, and limitations of sustainable business practices in a wide range of topics and areas: investment appraisals, financial decision-making, low-carbon strategies, eco-efficiency, and life-cycle analyses, as well as effective reporting and disclosure practices.

A major part of our research is concerned with the "business case for sustainability", i.e. how global sustainability challenges can be aligned with economic interests and become an integral part of investment decisions in capital markets.

One of the most prominent research outputs is the 2015 published Meta-Analysis, which analyses more than 2000 academic studies investigating the question "does it pay to be good/green?"

The chair conducts research projects in close cooperation with industry. This practitioner information paper illustrates potential collaborations and one of our projects in the climate change and energy context.
