MIBAS Debates 2023
In 1987, the Brundtland Commission defined sustainability as "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." After 36 years, we want to reflect on these questions together with experts from politics, business and science: How is this definition understood by companies nowadays? How do they implement it in their strategy? What are the strategies for implementation from an academic and political perspective? What needs to change? Let's debate!
On May 2, 2023, MIBAS debates on CSR, an event series organized by a group of students from MIBAS – the master’s program on International Business and Sustainability at the Universität Hamburg – took place.
MIBAS Debates' mission is to highlight topics related to sustainability in business. The theme of this year's event has been "Brundlandt Definition Reloaded - Our Common Future in Jeopardy?". Prof. Dr. Laura Marie Edinger-Schons, representing academia, was one of the speakers in the panel discussion - alongside fantastic guests from the corporate side: Per Ledermann, CEO of edding AG, and Sabrina Müller, Head of Sustainability at S.OLIVER GROUP. The panel discussed the current landscape of business practices and talked about how to be a leader to inspire others to change for a sustainable future. It was our pleasure to participate in this lively and inspiring discussion!
