A tailor-made energy management framework for SMEs
This research is based on an 18 month study of a sustainability project within a medium-sized car retailing and service company, Willy Tiedtke of Hamburg. This project was conducted in collaboration with SMARTEN, who developed an innovative energy flow assessment tool. Similar to other firms operating in the automotive industry, Willy Tiedtke faces new environmental regulations and increasing sensitivity of customers regarding sustainability-related issues. As a result, Willy Tiedtke decided to significantly advance the company’s effort in sustainability by starting a new project in cooperation with our university chair. The long-term goal of the project was to install an environmental management system, achieve a DIN ISO 50001 energy management certification, tackle waste- and water-related issues, and raise social standards. New insights were gained in the research, captured in conference papers and a journal article.
