about us
Welcome to the website of the Chair of Sociology, in particular Dynamics and Regulation of Economy and Society.
We explore interactions between politics, economy, society, and nature. Modern capitalism is systematically based on exclusion and exploitation, in particular on the (postcolonial) exploitation of labor, on a gendered division of labor, and the domination of nature.
Against this background, we are interested in social relations with nature, questions of ecological sustainability, and the transition to a post-growth society. In addition, we investigate practices of symbolic and manifest violence as well as the exclusion of people, but also civic self-organization and protest movements. We work on these problems hermeneutically, i.e. with the means of a theoretically grounded and historically informed form of qualitative social research.
Projects and topics we currently research can be found on the pages of the team members.
