About us
The research group "Sociological Theory" deals with social theories, as well as the sociology of culture, media, and migration. It focuses on developing sociological theories through interdisciplinary debate with political theory, media theory, and cultural theory. Of particular interest are discussions on the materiality of the social (from the sociology of the senses to the consideration of infrastructures and affects), the further development of system-theoretical and post-structuralist perspectives, and theorizing practices and techniques. In teaching and research, we draw on the latest theoretical developments as well as on the history of difference-theoretical and materialist classics.
These theoretical focuses are the basis for our approaches to the sociology of culture, media, and migration. We are particularly dedicated to digital cultures and their critique, sociology of disconnection, sociology of lists, sociology of the popular and popular culture, everyday sociology, the relationship between fiction and theory, radical democratic theory and concepts of political subjectivation, as well as the relation between migration, solidarity and citizenship.
