RULES AND PRIVACY POLICY FOR REGISTRATION FOR ECONOMIC EXPERIMENTS

RULES

TERMS FOR LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS

In order to take part in experiments carried out by researchers from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg, you have to log in to the Hamburg registration and organization online tool (http://www.wiso.uni-hamburg.de/ hroot) of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences, hereinafter referred to as hroot, register online and create a participant account. Only people currently enrolled as students at a university are allowed to register and participate in experiments (to be proven in person or by sending an official certificate of enrollment by email to experiments.wiso@uni-hamburg.de). Each person may only have one participant account in hroot.

  • For each experiment, only a certain number of registered persons who meet the requirements are given the opportunity to log in via hroot. Only those persons assigned to the experiment in hroot are entitled to participate in this experiment.
  • After receiving an invitation to a specific experiment by email, the participant must register via the online portal hroot in order to be able to take part in this experiment. Registration via hroot is a binding commitment to participate in this experiment. A binding registration directly via hroot without prior invitation by email is also possible.
  • You are only allowed to register for one session of a given experiment. Repeated participation in the same experiment is generally not permitted and is only permitted by the WiSo research laboratory in exceptional cases. If you repeatedly participate in two sessions of the same experiment due to deception of the laboratory staff, you will be excluded from all further experiments and held liable for the financial damage caused by you.
  • Unless otherwise announced, all persons who have registered for an experiment and who are present on time will receive a punctuality bonus of 5 euros if they cannot take part in the experiment because the experiment is booked out.
  • To ensure that only invited and duly notified by e-mail and properly registered persons participate in the experiment, the identity of all participants will be checked on site (with student ID and official document with picture). If participants cannot identify themselves, they will not receive a punctuality bonus for appearing and cannot take part in the experiment.
  • Participants are usually paid in cash after participating in an experiment on site. After participating in the experiment online, participants are usually paid by SEPA transfer. The prerequisite for the transfer is the specification of the required bank details (account holder, IBAN, BIC) in hroot. The entitlement to a payment expires if a notification requesting the provision of payment-relevant data is not complied with within a period of two weeks. The amount paid out generally depends on your own decisions or those of the other participants. People who take part in the experiment are not entitled to the punctuality bonus of 5 euros. The income you generate in the WiSo research laboratory generally represents income (among other things in the sense of the EStG, BAföG etc.). You have to take responsibility for this to your relevant / competent authorities (tax office, health insurance, BAföG or housing benefit office etc.) Report. Your responsible tax office or a tax advisor can usually provide you with information about your tax obligations.
  • During an experiment, each participant must adhere to the rules set out in the instructions by the person conducting the experiment.

DECLARATION OF CONSENT

By registering for laboratory experiments, you agree to the following statements:

I have been informed that my no-show or my late arrival to the experiment for which I have registered can lead to the cancellation of the experiment. I undertake to announce my non-participation by deregistering from the experiment on the online portal hroot at least 24 hours before the experiment is carried out.

I am aware that three unexcused no-shows will generally lead to exclusion from all further experiments. Any non-appearance after registering for an experiment - without timely rejection or giving plausible reasons - is documented on hroot.

In the event of willful violation of the rules of the WiSo research laboratory established hereby, there is a fundamental obligation to pay compensation. In particular, in the case of deliberate destruction and grossly negligent disruption of an experiment, as well as repeated participation in an experiment by creating another account, there is an obligation to fully reimburse the damage incurred, including reimbursement of all payments for the disrupted session.

Insurance coverage on the premises of the faculty is based on statutory liability under private law. The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences is liable for all damage for which it is responsible. Strict liability does not exist.

Participants and participant database

The data gathered in hroot are used exclusively to organize scientific experiments. This data will not be passed on to third parties. Any link between the data generated during experiments and the data in the registration and administrative system is strictly avoided.

  1. Purpose and legal basis for the data processing

We use the data for the following purposes:

  • to inform participants about new experiments and studies and to invite them to take part; (you can deactivate email invitations to participate in experiments in your hroot account at any time);
  • to select participants for certain experiments on the basis of scientific criteria;
  • to check whether registered participants turn up or fail to turn up for experiments;
  • to optimize the recruitment for and organization of scientific experiments.

This data processing is lawful under Article 6 paragraph 1 letter b GDPR and Section 11 subsection 1 Hamburg data protection act (Hamburgisches Datenschutzgesetz, HmbDSG).

  1. Transmission to third parties

Your personal data will not be passed on to third parties, nor will it be published or disclosed.

  1. Period of storage

You can decide at any time that you no longer want to take part in experiments and that your hroot account should be permanently deactivated or deleted. To protect experiment-related data, later identification of participants via a randomly generated identification code (pseudonymization) does, however, remain possible even after your hroot account has been deleted. This is to protect the principles of research integrity, which make it necessary to ensure that repeated participation in experiments by participants who have had their hroot account deleted does not occur.

Unless otherwise expressly stated, the data stored by us will be deleted as soon as they are no longer required for the purpose for which they were collected, unless other legal obligations require retention. Where data are not deleted due to other legally required purposes, any processing of such data will be restricted. That means the data will be blocked and not used for any other purpose. This includes, for example, data required for commercial or taxation purposes.

  1. Your rights

You have the following rights:

  • the right to information regarding personal data pertaining to you that is stored by us (Article 15 GDPR)
  • the right to rectification of any incorrect or incomplete personal data (Article 16 GDPR)
  • the right to deletion of personal data (Article 17 GDPR);
  • the right to restrict processing of personal data (Article 18 GDPR);
  • the right to data portability (Article 20 GDPR)
  • the right to object to processing of personal data for reasons arising from your particular situation (Article 21 GDPR).

You can exercise your rights by sending an email to the WISO Research Lab (forschungslabor.wiso@uni-hamburg.de).

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority where you believe the processing of personal data related to you is in breach of the GDPR (Article 77 GDPR).
