She accomplished a bachelor's degree in Intercultural Business Studies from Philips-Universität Marburg. During her studies she worked as a tutor for statistics and spent one semester as an ERASMUS student at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in Spain. After her bachelor, she completed a master's degree in International Business and Sustainability (MIBAS) at University of Hamburg with a scientific interest in sustainable business development and entrepreneurship and worked for the startup Matsmart-Motatos based in Stockholm. Currently, her research focuses on urgency perceptions and temporal conflicts in crises.</p>

AMOR brings together researchers on organizational studies to share and discuss their current projects.</p>
<p>This year, the teams of Prof. Dr. Jochen Koch (Chair of Management and Organization, European University Viadrina), Prof Dr. Matthias Wenzel (Chair for Business Administration in Particular Organization Studies, Leuphana University of Lüneburg), Prof. Dr. Thomas Wrona ( Strategic and International Management, TUHH) and Prof. Dr. Peter Eberl (Human Resource Management and Organization Studies, Kassel University) joined the meeting in Hamburg.</p>
<p>From the Chair of Organization Studies Lisa Harborth presented her paper "We borrow the earth from our children: How organizations create desirable futures through imaginaries of sustainability".</p>

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Entrepreneurship with a Global Social Concentration from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. During her studies she participated in a ‘Maymester’ in South Africa and Tanzania working with EDU Africa and did an exchange semester at Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia. Following her studies she worked internationally for various global corporations such as Disney and Hilton.</p>
<p>Samantha completed a master’s degree in International Business and Sustainability (MIBAS) at University of Hamburg where she focused on sustainable business development and innovation, and management in crises. Currently, her research concentrates on organizational inequality and the coordination of organizational routines.</p>

More than 10,000 members from around the world gathered to explore the theme Putting the Worker Front and Center throughout 2,000+ scholarly sessions.</p>
<p>Iris Seidemann, along with Soniya Rijal and Rima Al Hasan, co-organized a Professional Development Workshop (PDW) titled "Globalizing Paradox Theory and Research." This interactive session aimed to explore the generation of theories and research from contexts beyond the Non-WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic) world. The PDW featured round table discussions and a panel discussion moderated by Marianne Lewis.</p>
<p>Additionally, Iris presented the paper titled "Nobody Said It Was Easy: System-Level Dynamics in the Emergence and Navigation of Multi-Actor Paradoxes," which was co-authored by Daniel Geiger and Lisa Harborth. This presentation took place in session 1150, "Paradox Theory and Research in Organizations and Management." The paper received recognition as the "Best Paper" in the 83rd AOM Proceedings and was nominated for the OMT Responsible Research Award.</p>

July in Cagliari. Under the theme “Organizing for the Good Life: Between Legacy and Imagination” 2200 scholars from more than 60 countries discussed their work on Organization Studies.</p>
<p>Daniel Geiger was one of three convenors, together with Maria Booth (University of Jönköping) and Waldemar Kremser (JKU Linz) at the Sub-Theme "Routines Dynamics: Enacting and Crossing Boundaries.” This group discussed how routines are enacted and transferred across different institutional, organizational and group boundaries. He also delivered a keynote on the methodological and ethical challenges of collecting data in extreme contexts based on his experiences of working with firefighters, doing studies in refugee camps and in the Ebola epidemic.</p>
<p>Iris Seidemann presented the paper "Nobody said it was easy – System level dynamics in the emergence and navigation of multi actor paradoxes", co-authored by Daniel Geiger und Lisa Harboth in the Sub-theme 34: Exploring Paradox’ Meta-Theoretical Potential for Theorizing. The paper explores how system level dynamics unfold paradoxical tensions which impede the adressing of grand challenges and result in stable, path-dependent equlibria.</p>
<p>Lisa Harborth was invited to present and discuss her paper “‘We borrow the earth from our children’: How organizations create desirable futures through imaginaries of sustainability” in the sub-theme “Shaping Desirable Futures – Imagining (Real) Utopias”. The paper elucidates how organizations use imaginaries of sustainability in order to create and evaluate visions of distant, sustainable futures, and illustrates how this evaluative process unfolds.</p>

Hosted by the Chair for Organization Studies the first, inaugural lecture on “Disaster Insurance Reimagined: Protection in a Time of Increasing Risk” took place at Von-Melle-Park 9.</p>
<p>Paula Jarzabkowski is a Professor of Strategic Management Management at University of Queensland and City, University of London, and Co-Editor of Strategic Organization. Her research focuses on strategy-as-practice in complex contexts, such as regulated firms, third sector organizations and financial services, particularly insurance and reinsurance. As an expert for insurance protection gaps, Paula talked about her forthcoming book on ‘Protection Gap Entities’ (PGEs), which are not-for-profit insurance mechanisms that attempt to address the crisis in disaster insurance.</p>

In der Vortragsreihe wurden die Komplexität der Polykrise sowie die daraus resultierenden Managementherausforderungen im privaten und öffentlichen Sektor diskutiert. Zugleich versucht man den politischen und unternehmerischen Entscheidungsträger:innen mögliche Ansätze und Abhilfen im Umgang mit diesen Herausforderungen zu erläutern.</p>

<p>Konkret geht es bei dem Projekt mit dem Titel: „Resilience Building through Multi-Stakeholder Engagement in Anticipatory Action for Climate-Induced Disaster (REBUMAA)“ um die Frage wie mittels geeigneter Frühwarnsysteme bereits vor dem Eintreten von Krisen erfolgreich Hilfsmaßnahmen anlaufen können, um die Auswirkungen der Krise möglichst gering zu halten.</p>
<p>Das auf drei Jahre angelegte Projekt wird gemeinsam mit der Internationalen Föderation des Roten Kreuzes (IFRC), Universitäten in Nigeria, Benin und Togo, sowie den lokalen Rot-Kreuz Landesverbänden in Nigeria, Benin und Togo durchgeführt. Gemeinsam mit den drei lokalen Universitäten soll die Einführung und Umsetzung des hochinnovativen „forcebast-based finance“ Ansatzes wissenschaftlich begleitet werden. Die wissenschaftliche Leitung des Projekts liegt bei Prof. Dr. Geiger an der UHH.</p>

The Academy of Management is the world’s largest management conference that attracts more than 12.000 scholars each year. Papers that are invited for presentation undergo a rigorous blind peer review process and only 40% of the submitted papers are actually accepted.</p>
<p>Iris Seidemann presented her paper “Caught in a Trap: Media’s Role in the Creation of a Paradox of Legitimacy Repair”, co-authored with Daniel Geiger, at the OMT paper session “Institutional Voids, Persistence, Complexity, and Repair” (Session 1554). </p>

<p>Daniel Geiger was one of five panelists at the Sub-Plenary "Collective Action in Crisis?". The Sub-Plenary aimed to open up discussions about how collective action can be accomplished in situations of crisis – particularly collective action involving collaborations amongst a network of diverse actors that do not necessarily share a common history, tradition or identity. He also presented the paper co-authored with Lisa Harborth titled “Towards a diachronic perspective on coordinating routines in crises: Enacting temporal elasticity”. </p>
<p>Iris Seidemann attended the Pre-Colloquium PhD Workshop to discuss the theoretical framing of her dissertation with peers and senior scholars. Furthermore, she presented her newest project on the management of multiple tensions within the context of Grand Challenges at the paper development workshop “Paradox Theory for Research in an Imperfect Society”.</p>
<p>During the PhD workshop, Lisa Harborth had the chance to discuss the theoretical underpinnings of her dissertation with peers and senior scholars. She also attended the paper development workshop "Theorizing Desirable Futures", where she introduced a project focusing on how organizations create sustainable futures through present-day temporal structuring. Furthermore, she presented a paper exploring the role of time in process organization studies in the sub-theme "Organization and Time: Time as X and X as Time".</p>
<p>Ali Aslan Gümüsay was invited to present his paper "Entrepreneurship of the marginalized given institutional adversity: Muslim entrepreneurs in India" along with Abrar Ali Saiyed & Erkan Erdemir. He also presented his paper "Principles & Challenges of Digital Organizing in Open Strategy" together with Stephan Bohn. Ali Aslan Gümüsay was one of three convenors for the PDW "Theorizing Desirable Futures". The PDW opened up conversations about what a new future-oriented research agenda might look like, with the aim to develop new ways of theorizing desirable futures. </p>

<p>The paper presents a systematic literature review exploring the understudied concept of workforce homogeneity to inform public personnel management in theory and practice. The paper reveals how self-selection, personnel policies, and socialization create often implicit yet persistent practices that lead to workforce homogeneity. By linking these causes with their (un-)intended consequences, the study sheds light on an important theoretical concept for public management and identifies broad avenues for future research. The findings suggest that research into the effects of workforce composition will benefit from integrating the perspective of homogeneity not merely as the flipside of diversity but as an interlinked yet non-congruent concept.</p>
<p>Public Management Review is an international journal, seeking to draw together and learn lessons from the development of public management. All papers in PMR have undergone rigorous peer review, based upon an initial editorial screening followed by a minimum of double-blind peer review.</p>

Increasingly, humanitarian actors are shifting the approach towards disasters: Instead of providing emergency response after a disaster has hit, Forcecast-based finance (FbF) builds on the idea that many disasters can be predicted (e.g. floods) and relief efforts can hence start before the incident has actually happened. This report presents the monetary and non-monetary implications of engaging in forecast-based financing, as well as principles and a roadmap for its implementation.
