Code of Ethics
WISO Research Lab
Von-Melle-Park 5, Raum 2155
By signing the declaration of compliance with the conditions of use and ethical standards, you obligate yourself to observe the RESPECT Code of Practice (professional and ethical codes for socio-economic research in the information society) of the Information Society Technologies program of the European Commission when carrying out your research. The key aspects of the code are:
- Upholding scientific standards: Researchers are required to take into consideration all relevant facts and to declare them without omission, misrepresentation, or deception.
- Observance of national and international laws (compliance with the law)
- Minimization of social or personal harm to the persons being investigated (avoidance of social or personal harm): “An overarching objective of socio-economic research should be to ensure that the research findings are beneficial to society, either directly or by means of a general improvement of human knowledge and understanding. As a consequence, researchers should aim to avoid or minimize the harm to groups or individual persons when carrying out research.” 1
Do you have any questions on good scientific practice or do you require information about rules and recommendations regarding ethical standards of scientific research? If so, please consult the Universität Hamburg web page on good scientific practice and the guidelines of the German Research Foundation (in german).
