Studying Abroad

Within the master's program you have the opportunity to study abroad for an academic term. We recommend that you choose lectures and seminars in the fields of public and nonprofit management at the respective international institutions. To be able to better plan your stay abroad, we have started to establish cooperations with partner institutions. This partner network is to be continously  expanded.

The International Office of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences will provide you with extensive information and assistance in organizing your stay abroad. If you decide to spend a semester abroad, please check the list of approved courses at institutions abroad or, if in doubt, please consult with the program director.

There are various exchange programs you can apply to (see below). Before doing so, you should inform yourself about the approval of the courses you wish to take abroad (learning agreements). These links provide you with Information on learning agreements within the Erasmus+ program (including forms) and on the approval of course credits.

Erasmus+

If you choose to spend a semester abroad in an EU-country, it is preferable that you participate in the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. Each year, approximately 500 students of Universität Hamburg participate in the Erasmus+ program. The main advantages of the program are:

  • Tuition fees are waved by the host university
  • Monthly financial grants
  • Administrative support by the home and the host university
  • Approval of courses through learning agreements
  • Special support for students with children and students with special needs

Here you have the opportunity to search for exchange opportunities according to subjects and countries.

Central Exchanges

Irrespective of the field of study, you have the opportunity to participate in the central exchange program of Universität Hamburg with partner institutions worldwide. The places are available via a selection process by the Department of International Affairs. Advantages are:

  • Tuition fees are waved by the host university
  • Administrative support by the Department of Internationl Affairs and the host university
  • Possible part-stipend or guaranteed dorm room depending on the university
  • Possible combination with Hamburglobal-funding

Bilateral Agreements

Another possibility for completing a semester abroad is based on bilateral agreements at the program level, which are hence only open to PUNO students.

You also have the opportunity to organize your stay abroad independently of a program as a so-called 'free mover'. Please note that the host university might charge tuition fees.
