Center for Sustainable Society Research (CSS)

The Center for Sustainable Society Research (CSS) aims to broaden the understanding of social and economic institutions and processes of modern societies with regard to sustainability. The Center is particularly concerned with the societal reconfigurations induced by climate change, which are regarded as central drivers of sustainability transformations. The common focus of research at CSS is on the conditions and perspectives of a "society of sustainability" that combines ecological responsibility with a focus on social justice and democratic legitimacy.

Externally funded research projects at the CSS contribute to the Faculty’s international visibility in these research areas.
