Research Focal Points
In our research we examine practical relevant questions using sophisticated scientific methods to derive empirically grounded recommendations. The goal is to identify patterns which contribute to increase the efficiency and quality of health care.
Our department covers three research focal points:
Management of Health Care Providers: The primary focus in this research area is the methodological development of measurement of performance and quality, but it also includes organization of hospitals, university hospitals and medical centers.
Competition and regulation of pharmaceutical markets: In this area, the impact of regulation of the pharmaceutical market on the behavior of producers and other stakeholders are examined. The following subjects are particular interest here: the price of pharmaceutical products, health care utilization, and prescription volume.
Management of the care of patients with chronic illness: Here several models for the organization of chronic illness care (e.g. disease management programs) are developed and evaluated. In addition, the focus is also on developing methods for the economic evaluation of therapies and forms of organization in the treatment of chronic diseases.
