Welcome to the Department of Business Administration

Research and teaching at the Department of Business Administration at Universität Hamburg are shaped by the particular climate of the cosmopolitan Hanseatic City of Hamburg, which plays a central role in international trade. We combine the city’s commercial tradition with methods and theories in modern business administration research. Our research and teaching are both international and interdisciplinary, exploring and encouraging the individual talents of our students and researchers.

The Department of Business Administration enjoys an excellent reputation both at home and abroad: over 30 professors teach and research at the department. Our research programs are ranked top (e.g. by the German commerce magazine Handelsblatt and in the CHE-Ranking). Our graduates receive first-class training and are highly sought-after by potential employers in the research and business world. The Department’s alumni work across the globe and it’s professors are excellently networked with other scientists and managers from companies and non-profit organisations.

Our research findings develop from setting strong, disciplinary priorities and via interdisciplinary research centers (e.g. The Research Center for Media and Communication), which operate as part of an international network. We run research labs for experimental research and participate in major conferences at an international level, ensuring the exchange of scientific knowledge.

In our academic programs, we offer an extensive range of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs, which culminate in a structured PhD program at the WiSo-Graduate School or in one of the interdisciplinary research training groups.
