The graduate school coordinates and supports doctoral candidates in the School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences. It aims to pool and improve all aspects of doctoral studies. The graduate school also supports research pursuits, especially in the areas of business administration, economics, socioeconomics, political science, sociology, criminology, and journalism.

New PhD program as of winter semester 2012/2013
Last summer semester, the School Council authorized an application submitted by the graduate school’s chair and passed academic regulations for a new PhD program, effective as of winter semester 2012/2013. Read more...

Opening festivities to celebrate the new PhD program
To celebrate our new PhD program, the graduate school hosted festivities in the Agathe Lasch Lecture Hall of Universität Hamburg on 2 November 2012. These included a discussion about doctoral studies in Germany as well as a ceremony honoring graduates who have completed PhD programs since October 2010. Dr. Dorothee Stapelfeldt, Hamburg’s academic senator, Prof. Dr. Dieter Lenzen, president of Universität Hamburg, and Prof. Dr. Gabriele Löschper, dean of the School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences, made the opening remarks. The band Off the Valley, which hailed from Copenhagen, performed and festivities included with glass of Sekt.
